We think straightening your teeth is a smart move. Straight teeth not only contribute to smile appearance but may also mean improved oral health.

When teeth are straight, they are easier to brush and floss. Additionally, straight teeth help curb tooth wear by evening the bite.

However, deciding between Invisalign and traditional braces can be difficult. Your Tamworth dentist may be able to help.

Choosing Traditional Braces or Invisalign in Tamworth

Before you decide on a specific orthodontic option, we recommend a consultation in our dental office. At this first visit, your dentist provides an exam, talks to you about your smile objectives, and helps you decide which option will work best for you.

In some cases, if overlapping and bite issues are severe, traditional braces may be the better option. However, many people with these types of problems are surprised to learn that Invisalign is all they need.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are tooth brackets attached to teeth and threaded with wires. Periodically, you visit the dental office for wire adjustments. These visits help bring your teeth in line slowly and comfortably.

You cannot remove your braces. Only your dentist can do so at the end of treatment.

Invisalign is a more discreet system that uses clear aligners to bring teeth in line. With this system, you visit the dentist less often but must follow instructions, including:

  • Changing to the next aligner in the series on time
  • Wearing your aligner for at least 22 hours per day

You can remove your aligners to clean your teeth and gum and to eat your meals.
